Maryann has devoted her entire adult life in making a difference in her community. With her undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of South Carolina and Masters in Education from the Citadel, her passion and commitment to serving the community is reflected throughout her schooling and career. A dutiful and reliant Educator, Maryann was recognized with the ‘Teacher of the Year’ award in New Jersey in 1998. She has given her time and servitude through all outlets aimed to serve the community for over 29 years.
She serves on the Stewardess Board for Adams Northeast AME Church. She also serves under the Board of Directors for Lexington/Richland Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council and MORE (Midlands Organized Response for Equity) Justice Organization. Maryann Wright is also a devoted member of the AKA-Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc and former Financial Secretary of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women (Columbia chapter).
Her dream is to see Richland 2 School District transform into a place where students receive an equitable education in a safe environment. Also, an education that is sensitive to the intellectual, social, emotional and mental health needs of all students. Maryann Wright is a champion for inclusivity and opportunities for all students willing to learn and grow their educations under all ventures be it 4 year college education or trading schools. She strives to open the doors for every child to become a contributing part of society by encouraging their willingness to learn and not limit it.
